Marshfield,
MA:
Buy local or bye, bye local businesses.
The
Marshfield Chamber of Commerce is supporting an initial event
to encourage consumers to shop local and enjoy closer parking, personal
first
name service and competitive pricing. The public is urged to join
the celebration at Marshfield's Local Business Sidewalk Sale on
Saturday, May 21st (with a rain date of the following Saturday,
May 28) from 10am - 4pm.
The
Marshfield Chamber has invited its members and other local merchants
to participate in the sidewalk sale and help line the entire town
of Marshfield - from Route 139, the center of town and through Brant
Rock - with tables and racks of mechanize for sale on that day.
Marshfield
retailers will also be displaying signs and offering free bumper
stickers with the slogan "Shop Marshfield for the BEST."
Dwarfed
by "big box" stores such as Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Best
Buy, Lowe's and Costco who siphon profits to distant corporate locations,
Marshfield retailers are looking to make consumers more conscious
of their buying decisions.
This
idea for the campaign was initiated by Taylor Lumber -ACE Hardware
who has been serving Marshfield's lumber and hardware needs for
more than 50 years.
"The
Shop Marshfield Sidewalk Sale is the first step in creating a campaign
that highlights and delivers better, locally owned shopping options
for local people," noted Rick Taylor of Taylor Lumber-ACE Hardware,
2075 Ocean Street (Route 139) in Marshfield, Mass.
Taylor
continued, "We hope to make consumers aware of the fact that
shopping local means better service and competitive pricing. Shopping
at local, independent stores also helps maintain the small town flavor
of knowing who you are doing business with and them knowing you.
